Community Development Initiative

The values of Crosstown Learning Center are focused on children and their families, our community stakeholders, and our team members. We are intentional about providing an inclusive and welcoming place where everyone in the community feels valued and respected. We contribute to our community by serving as a community hub for our neighborhood and nearby communities. We advocate for the importance of parent and community involvement in early education.

As a NAEYC-accredited early learning center, Crosstown continually strives to meet the NAEYC Community Relationship Standards:

• Crosstown facilitates connections between families and community organizations and services
• Crosstown invites and integrates the community in program events 
• Crosstown collaborates with the community to advocate for neighborhood improvement

When the new Crosstown school facility was built in 2016, a Community Room was included as part of the new structure. The room symbolizes the commitment Crosstown makes to the greater Tulsa area at large, and to the Kendall Whittier Neighborhood specfically. The QuikTrip Corporation provided a five-year grant to fund the Crosstown Community Development Initiative, and the three larger projects that have grown first from the intitiative follow:

• The Community Room is the preferred location for a variety of events, including regular Zumba classes, neighborhood safety meetings, voting, quarterly Cop Chat meetings hosted by Tulsa Police Department, and more.
• The Archer Park refurbishment project aims to bring neighborhood families back to the historic park, renewing the park as a safe area to bring families for cookouts, movies, and other activities.
• In collaboration with Rebuilding Together Tulsa, funds are being used to make repairs to owner-occupied homes whose income levels qualify them for assistance in making their homes safer, more secure, weatherproof, and accessible. These repairs are made free to the homeowner, and help other families in the neighborhood by increasing home values.
